Time-Out

littlegirl

She sat by the window
Afraid to look out
Afraid to the see her phantasm
Being acted out.

She remembered all the good times
And her life sped past her eyes
She didn’t want to be called
To say “daddy goodbye”

She saw her mum hold on
To the vestiges of her strength
She saw dad move hurriedly
He so desperately wanted to leave

She didn’t know what went wrong
She didn’t know why parents fought
She hoped it was temporary
Like all her time outs

Mum couldn’t punish for long
And maybe dad would apologise
She looked up and prayed
Maybe her wish would materialize!

    Yeah!
I remember how a cousin of mine, really really young had once come to me crying thinking her parents would separate coz they’d been fighting so much.
It ached to see her so hurt. I wonder if parents ever realise how very traumatic their fights are to the children! 😦
