The-Last-Waltz-Posters

She floated across the room
On leaden steps, which felt impossible to move,
She turned her eyes away to disguise
The misery that her smile wouldn’t belie.

The melancholic tunes drifting through room
Drowned her in its soulful mourn–
She closed her eyes and turned halfway;
To be checked by the slightest touch

Her lips split into a soft smile, she reached out
Her silken glove, dawdling along his long sleeve,
His hand on her delicate waist, with her he swayed
Trailing her spine, tracing a blazing route.

The waltz commenced on this cue
the tinkering sounds, an ally to their plans–
Propriety in mind, facades in place
they waltzed together, with one expressionless face.

The dance upped its tempo with it their pace
holding on ever closer, swaying in one place.
The lighted candles, illuminating her face
also highlighted her misty gaze.

Their eyes longed to mingle in forbidden locales
their souls for momentary solace.
Their desire now urgently palpable–
Their dance the only reality in the world
where their spouses watched with raised brows.
