Dream Within A Dream

It is amazing how just 5 days ago, I didn’t have anything to write about and today, I have ideas just popping in every place I go. As a result, I’ve finally gotten around to keeping that “Idea Journal” I’d been planning forever. Now, I carry around a tiny notebook to note down anything I might want to write about.

I really do want to sit down and talk to you about all the wonderful things that happened today. Really. I do. But…I’m dead tired. I’ve barely slept well for weeks now and today, when I have no energy to study, no electricity to read a book in and I can literally not keep my eyes open, I’m going to have to succumb to the inescapable urge to sleep.

But before I leave, here is a really nice poem by Edgar Allen Poe which always makes me wonder and smile. It’s the perfect night rhyme to fall asleep to. 🙂

A Dream Within A Dream

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow–
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand–
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep–while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

Goodnight! 🙂
