By the Riverside

IMG_1343

Abandoned
on a forgotten
stretch of land,
I sink into
the murky, silt.

Hidden
amongst the damp,
muck and grime,
I am
resigned – to my fate.

Destined
to go unseen,
unheard
and unknown
to my grave.

Overflowing
with the hope
of a young bride,
I was offered up
as  a sacrifice.

She
floated me
into the river stream
to sink
into the deep .

But,
the waves
did not agree
and pushed me
awry.

Empty,
broken,
dirty.
I am lost,
forgotten, weary.

Bereft
of any hope…
I waste away
in the sand.

Meandering,
trying and inching
through the unyielding land
the river embraces me.

I am returned to my destiny.

Sleepyhead

Sleep laden eyes,
sluggish movements.
A lazy smile on her lips
while her head bobs
from side to side.

Lost to the world,
unadorned of wiles.

She has never been more beautiful.

Inspired by a video of my aunt’s niece who fell asleep while listening to nursery rhymes. Every time her head would bob to one side, she’d shake her head and pop it back up on her arms. Repeatedly. While sleeping. Much cuteness. 🙂

Scurrying Home

Straining towards
the setting sun;
soaking in
the last rays
of sunlight.
I spread my petals
far and wide,
to touch the
tired, tepid rays.
The tiny ant
scurries down
the stalk,
as it sways
in the sorrowful,
setting light.

Dancing Flowers

Five-pleated,
finespun,
flowing skirt
of a
blooming
flower,
twirls softly
on a
hazel floor.

The cherry pink
stalks
and
the bright
green tips
angle themselves
delicately.

As dancers
often do,
moving
symmetrically.

This poem is inspired completely by the vision of the photographer.

A Wilting Leaf

Wilting, waiting;
on the parched,
wooden step.
Drenched; discarded
by the tree.
Flitted by the wind
unthinkingly.
Slowly withering
into obscurity.
I wait for you
to crush me
beneath the sole
of your feet.
